Just For Laughs: Energy Independence

By Markham Lee on August 30, 2008 | More Posts By Markham Lee | Author's Website

Mind you this is a satirical look at the idea of energy independence, but sometimes, the phrase seems more rooted in a nonsensical brand of nationalism then reality, because it’s a farcical notion that a nation that consumes 25% of the world’s oil yet has only 3% of the world’s reserves can become energy independent whilst still heavily depending on oil.

The only we can become energy independent is to create a new kind of energy source that we can produce ourselves, any discussions of energy independence within the context of fossil fuels are nonsensical at best.
