Bernanke To Speak Thursday - Economic Preview
(RTTNews) - It was a good day on Wall Street, as investors picked up some stocks sending the Dow up 66 points. Thursday they will hear from Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke for the second time this week, as he addresses a Banking Structure Conference hosted by the Chicago Fed.
The Fed Chairman is scheduled to speak at 8:30 am ET. Chicago Federal Reserve Bank President Charles Evans will deliver welcoming and introductory remarks at 8:15 am ET.
At 8:30 am ET, data on initial jobless claims for the week of May 10 will be made public. Analysts expect claims to edge up to 370,000 from last week’s unrevised 365,000.
Also at 8:30 am ET the NY Empire State Index for May will be released. Analysts expect the index to come in flat, compared with last month when it edged up 0.6.
Net foreign purchases for the month of March will be released at 9:00 am ET, and analysts expect purchase to decline around $10 billion to $62.5 billion from February’s $72.5 billion.
At 9:15 am, data on industrial production and capacity utilization for the month of April will be released. Analysts expect production to decline 0.3 percent, swinging from March’s increase of 0.3 percent. Capacity utilization is expected to edge down to 80.2 percent from March’s 80.3 percent.
The Philadelphia Fed survey for May will be made public at 10:00 am ET. Analysts expect the index to come in at negative 19.0, a better reading than April’s negative 24.9 reading.
