South Korean market ends up; KOSPI at 5-month high
(RTTNews) - Seoul shares closed higher for the fourth consecutive session on Friday, with the benchmark KOSPI index rising to its best level in five months. However, the market witnessed a high degree of volatility during the course of the session.
The key index closed up 3.17 points or 0.2% at 1,888.88, its highest since December 28, 2007. For the week, the index has risen about 4%.
In currency trading, the dollar closed the session at 1,041.0 won, down from Thursday’s close of 1,045.1 won.
Market heavyweight Samsung Electronics dropped 0.5%, and LG Electronics shed 3.4% on profit-taking following recent gains. LG Display tumbled 8.3%.
Steelmaker POSCO gained 1.5%, Hyundai Heavy surged 3.7% and Samsung Heavy soared 3.9%.
